Our Nativity Pageant will be held during worship on December 10th. Immediately following worship, we invite everyone to stay for a finger food lunch. We ask that you all bring finger foods to share. Examples would be sandwiches, fruit or vegetable platters, chips, cheezies, cookies, etc. Please do not bring anything that needs to be heated. There is a fridge available in the basement so that food may be put there during worship.

On December 17th, we are all invited to join our brothers and sisters of the Communauté Chrétienne Béthanie for their presentation of the Nativity and a celebration of the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper. This service starts at 1 pm, and the address is Ferland Community Centre, 1600 8th Avenue.

On December 24th, we will hold our annual Christmas Eve Service, starting at 7 pm. Note that, for this service AND the service of Lessons and Carols on December 17th, we will need extra readers. Please see Katherine if you are willing to be one of these readers.

NOTRE APPORCHE VERS DIEU / OUR APPROACH TO GOD

BIENVENUE, PRIÈRE ET APPEL À LA CÉLÉBRATION  / GREETING, PRAYER AND CALL TO WORSHIP
(Se lever / Congregation rises as the Minister enters)

As I live every day, I want to be a channel for peace. May I bring love where there is hatred and healing where there is hurt; joy where there is sadness, and hope where there is fear. I pray that I may always try to understand and comfort other people, as well as seeking comfort and understanding from them. May I choose always to be a light in the darkness, a help in times of need, and a caring honest friend. And may justice, kindness, and peace flow from my heart forever. Amen.

The nights are long and the days are short.
And so we wait for Jesus.
The heavens are trembling with anticipation.
And so we wait for Jesus.
Our redemption is drawing near.
And so we wait for Jesus.
Let us put our hope in God as we prepare to welcome the birth of new life once more.

The Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

And also with you.

Holy, holy, holy, Lord God almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee;
Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty,
God in Three Persons, blessed Trinity!  (Sung)

ADVENT CANDLE LIGHTING LITURGY
Voice 1: The prophets call and the psalmist sings to announce that hope comes from God.
Voice 2: O that you would tear open the heavens and come down so that the mountains would quake at your presence. We shall see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
Voice 1: The world cries for justice and transformation. Advent summons us to watch, to wait and to hope. In the destruction of the current order is the promise of a new order beyond our imagination. Signs of hope are all around us if we have the patience to wait and to see them.
Voice 2: Holy are you, source of all new life among us.
All: Jesus Christ comes as the hope of the world.
Voice 2: We join with all creation and lift our hearts in joyful praise.
All: We light this candle to bear witness to hope.

HYMN: 119 HOPE IS A STAR
Hope is a star that shines in the night
Leading us on till the morning is bright.
When God is a child, there’s joy in our song.
The last shall be first, and the weak shall be strong.
And none shall be afraid.

PRIÈRE D’INVOCATION / PRAYER OF INVOCATION

CANTIQUE / HYMN 122 O COME, O COME, EMMANUEL (1 – 3)

PRIÈRE DE CONFESSION / PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Redeeming God, we confess that waiting is difficult when the world around us is on edge.  We are impatient with each other, waiting for someone to make a difference.  We are impatient with you, O God, waiting for a sign that things will improve. Forgive us, O God. Turn our hearts to you again and again, and show us how to act in hope for Jesus’ sake. Amen.

LE NOTRE PÈRE/ THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory. Forever and ever, Amen.

PSAUME / RESPONSIVE READING  Psalm 80: 1 – 7, 17 – 19
Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, you, who lead Joseph like a flock.
You, who are enthroned upon the cherubim, shine forth before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh. Stir up your might and come to save us!
Restore us, O God,
let your face shine, that we may be saved.
But let your hand be upon the one at your right hand, the one whom you made strong for yourself.
Then we will never turn back from you; give us life and we will call on your name.
Restore us, O Lord, God of hosts;
let your face shine, that we may be saved.
